Cabanon Concrete Retreat, Crete
Overview
Set high above the rugged Mani coastline, Cabanon Concrete Retreat is composed of two sculptural micro-houses designed by Pavlos Chatziangelou. Carved from raw concrete and glass, they disappear into the rocky landscape, framing endless views of the Laconian Gulf. Minimal yet deeply sensory, the retreat invites stillness, solitude and connection with nature, a contemporary ode to Le Corbusier's philosophy of essential living, reimagined for modern travellers seeking quiet design-led escape.

Location
Perched high above the Laconian Gulf on the Mani Peninsula, Cabanon Concrete Retreat sits amid olive groves, rocky hills and open sea views. The nearest village, Kyparissos, is a short drive away, while the wild beaches of southern Mani lie just beyond.
The Journey from the UK
Fly direct into Kalamata International Airport (KLX) from London Heathrow, London Gatwick and many regional UK airports, with a flight time of around three and a half hours. From there its a two hour coastal drive through olive valleys and mountain roads, best experienced with a private transfer or self-drive car to savour the landscape's quiet grandeur.
Suites/Villas
The retreat consists of two freestanding cabanons, each an architectural meditation in raw concrete and glass. They open fully to the Mani horizon, dissolving the boundary between indoors and out. Interiors are furnished with Coco-Mat beds, Zealot of Nature amenities and bespoke wooden furniture that softens the minimalist aesthetic. Each includes a compact kitchen with Smeg appliances, a rainfall shower and panoramic terrace for dining, yoga or quiet reflection. Every details speaks to balance, stillness and elemental comfort.
Food and Restaurants
With no restaurant, dining at Cabanon is a slow, sensory experience shaped by Mani's rugged landscape. The villa's fully equipped kitchen invites unhurried cooking with local ingredients, olive oil from nearby groves, freshly baked bread, and herbs picked from surrounding hills. Guests can arrange private chef dinners under the stars or explore family run tavernas in nearby villages, where seafood is caught that morning and meals unfold with the unhurried rhythm of Greek coastal life.
